HistoryMillicent Charbonnet established an antiques business in New Orleans in 1971. Located on Magazine Street "antiques row", she specialized in English antiques. This required travel to England several times yearly to purchase inventory. For 32 years Charbonnet and Charbonnet was a mecca for antiques lovers. The Charbonnets, like many New Orleanians, have had a long affinity for the Mississippi Gulf Coast and spent weekends and summers at their home in Pass Christian with their children. After Millicent’s husband, Sid, retired from his law practice several years ago, they spent more and more time on the coast. Eventually they sold their building in New Orleans and moved the business to Bay Saint Louis. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the business closed and they sold their other Bay Saint Louis locations. However, in 2007 they decided to do something to help bring Pass Christian back to life. They purchased the gutted old Post Office on Davis Avenue and renovated it. It is now a charming shop where "antique hounds" can find the "just right" piece to accent their home with southern charm. Along with their amazing collection of antique English and European pine furniture, they carry unique home furnishings, fabulous fun jewelry, and gifts. They specialize in Mississippi products, such as hand made pottery which includes a fist full of Mississippi beach sand in every batch of clay. Other Mississippi items include cheese straws, soaps, swings, and gourmet foods. Millie Charbonnet, the Charbonnet's daughter, manages the shop and with the help of Jeanne Pertuit, they are always available to assist customers in selecting the perfect piece for their home. |
